Man Slashes Throat In Front Of Garda
A man wielding a knife slashed his own throat in front of garda officers investigating a suspected fraud case.
Armed support had to be called after officers, who had gone to a Cork hospital to examine documents and computer files as part of an investigation into suspected fraud, were confront by the man brandishing a knife.
The man later slashed his own throat in front of the officers.
He was rushed to hospital and is now understood to be out of danger.
The fraud investigation was launched following a formal complaint to gardai from the HSE.
The probe follows HSE concerns after an audit at the facility highlighted suspected irregularities regarding payments to a supply firm. The HSE confirmed a garda probe was under way but said it could not comment on the details.

Tobacco Worth More Than €1m Seized At Rosslare Europort
Revenue Officers have seized tobacco with an estimated value of more than €1 million at Rosslare Europort, Co Wexford. More than two tonnes of tobacco was uncovered when revenue officers stopped and searched a Polish-registered truck that was arriving from Cherbourg in France.

Dissident Republican Accused To Appear In Court
Three of the men arrested on Sunday in relation to dissident republican and criminal activity are to appear before the Special Criminal Court, Green Street, this evening. Yesterday, Gardaí in Dublin announced they had made five arrests in connection with an investigation into dissident republicans in the capital.

Officers Seize €20,000 At Knock Airport
Revenue officers seized €20,000 in cash from a couple who landed in Knock airport having returned from Lanzarote. The can was concealed in items of clothing and carry-on luggage. The cash was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act and investigations are continuing.
