On-The-Run Northern Irish Rapist Arrested In Dublin

A convicted rapist who was on the run from Northern Irish police has been arrested by gardaí in Dublin.

The PSNI issued an arrest warrant for Edward Connors, 19, earlier this week.

The teenager was just 15 when he raped an American tourist in the Colin Glen Forest Park in Belfast, four years ago.

He was jailed for four years but is now out on probation.

The PSNI issued a photograph of Connors earlier this week after he failed to appear at Belfast Crown Court in connection with a violation of a probation condition.

He was charged with breaching a condition that required him to complete an individual programme of work to address his sexual offending.

The arrest was made in Ballyfermot last night.

Connors is charged with failing to register with the gardaí as required by Section 12 of the Sex Offenders Act, and is due to appear before the Dublin District Court.

Under law he had seven days to notify gardai that he entered the jurisdiction and give a permanent address.

It is understood the PSNI will seek Connors's extradition to Northern Ireland.
