Budget Airline Announces Five New Routes From Cork

Fine Gael Cork South Central Deputy, Jerry Buttimer, has today (Thursday) welcomed the announcement by Ryanair of five new routes from Cork which are scheduled to begin later this year.

"News that Ryanair is to establish five new routes from Cork, travelling to Gdansk, Wroclaw, Krakow, Warsaw and Vilnius is great news for the people of Cork, tourism in the area and for the future development of Cork Airport.

"The decision by Ryanair to expand services from Cork is a vote of confidence in the region and in Cork Airport. From November, the people of Cork will have greater choice of flights when deciding on overseas travel destinations. The Polish and Lithuanian communities in Cork will also be facilitated in travelling home to visit family and friends. In return, visitors from these countries will now have greater choice of carrier when flying directly to Cork. This will enhance competition and ensure better value, while having a knock-on benefit for tourism in the region.

"This move by Ryanair, further builds the case for Cork Airport to develop its own business plan, separate to that of Dublin. The restructuring of the State’s airports back in May brought increased autonomy for Cork Airport one step closer. We must continue to build on the airport’s successes to date. This announcement of new routes, which will boost traffic to and from the airport significantly, will go towards doing just that."
