31% Drop In New Homes Built This Year
The number of new homes constructed in the first half of 2012 has fallen by 31% for the same period of 2011, new figures from the Construction Industry Federation show.
Between January and July this year some 1,212 new housing units were commenced, compared with 1,751 in 2011.
The level of new house completions for the first five months of 2012 is also significantly down according to the figures.
Between January and May of this year 3,283 housing units were completed. This compares to 4,443 during the same period in 2011, which is a drop of 1,160 units or 26 per cent.
A total of 10,480 housing units were completed during 2011. Less than 8000 units will be completed this year the CIF has predicted.

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney, has announced the re-opening of the Poultry Welfare Scheme for new applications. The Minister stated that the revised closing date for receipt of applications under the Scheme will now be Friday, 12 August 2011.

New Data Reveals Irish Car Sales Up 30% In 2015
Car sales in Ireland have increased by 30% in 2015, according to new figures. It is understood the industry had estimated approximately 115,000 to 120,000 vehicles being sold, with the final tally exceeding expectations. A total of 125,950 units were registered for the year, an increase from 96,000 cars in 2014.
