Judge Orders 14-Year-Old To Remain Sober

A 14-year-old boy charged with public order offences has been ordered to remain sober and obey a curfew.

The teenager appeared at the Children's Court accused of being intoxicated to such an extent he was a danger to himself and others.

He also faced two counts of breach of the peace, at two locations in Ballymun, in north Dublin, on a date last month.

Addressing the court garda Patrick O'Gorman asked Judge Colin Daly to impose a number of bail conditions including a curfew and a restriction on the teenager's movements, saying that he had been congregating with others in a “troublesome area” in his locality that “leads to problems”.

The garda also asked the court to order the teen “to remain sober”.

Judge Daly agreed to set the bail terms requested and the teenager said he understood them.

The boy, who was accompanied to his hearing by his mother, was granted legal aid and ordered to appear again later this month when he is to enter pleas to the charges.
