Five-And-A-Half Year Gardaí Investigation Ends
A five-and-a-half year Garda investigation into the death of a man who was stabbed in his kitchen has ended, with no charges brought.
60-year-old Michael Gallagher was killed on January 18, 2007, when two men barged into his home on Tymonville Road in Tallaght, Dublin 24.
Mr Gallagher’s partner Sally Rogers answered a call to the front door at 10pm on the night and the two men pushed past her before launching a brutal assault on Mr Gallagher.
Mr Gallagher’s family believe that his death was the result of mistaken identity. The father of five was a painter and decorator by trade and was not involved in any kind of criminal activity.
His death has been the subject of a number of garda appeals, most recently in March this year.
However, Detective Inspector John Walsh of Tallaght Garda Station told Dublin Coroner Dr Brian Farrell yesterday that while the file remains open, gardaí have reached the end of their investigation.
“There are no active lines of inquiry,” he said, “It has been a long garda investigation and certain lines of inquiry opened up as the investigation proceeded”.
Dr Farrell set a date for a full hearing of the inquest into Mr Gallagher’s death on November 7.
