Cuts To Personal Assistant Hours Will Not Proceed
Labour TD for Cork South-West Michael McCarthy has welcomed the decision by Government not to proceed with planned cuts to personal assistant hours for people with disabilities.
Mr McCarthy said: "I wish to roundly welcome the decision by the Minister for Health James Reilly yesterday not to follow through with plans by the HSE to cut to personal assistant hours for disabled people.
"This follows concerted pressure from Labour Party TDs and Senators over the last few days who were deeply concerned about the impact that such a measure would have on the welfare of people with disabilities. I want to commend the input of our party leader, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, and colleague, the Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin, at yesterday's Cabinet discussions and in particular, in bringing the concerned views of Labour TDs and Senators to the fore."
