Tánaiste Cautions On Pre-Budget Speculation And Leaks
Speaking about Decembers upcoming Budget, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has warned against a "season of kite-flying".
At the conclusion of the Labour think-in, Mr Gilmore said that last year there had been a leak-a-day about what might be in the Budget, which was unfair, particularly for elderly people worried about what it might contain.
Pointing out that much of the speculation was inaccurate, Mr Gilmore said he hoped there would not be a season of kite-flying and leaks in the run up to this December’s Budget.
Asked about a suggestion by MEP Nessa Childers that the party could split, Mr Gilmore replied: "That's news to me".
He said he was "absolutely confident" in the support of the parliamentary party in taking tough budgetary decisions, adding that he was confident that when they met this time next year, Ireland would be on the eve of exiting the EU/IMF bailout programme.
