16 Arrested In Alan Ryan Funeral Investigation

16 people have been arrested as part of a Gardaí investigation into criminal activity at the funeral of Alan Ryan last Saturday.

At the 32-year-olds funeral dissident republicans in paramilitary outfits escorted the coffin and a number of shots were fired.

Ryan, who was from Grange Abbey Drive in Donaghmede, was shot dead on Grange Lodge Avenue in Clongriffin last week.

Detectives believe Ryan had recently been involved in a Real IRA group that was in conflict with a Dublin drugs gang.

Over 200 gardaí began searching dozens of homes in counties Dublin, Meath, Kildare and Louth in the early hours of this morning.

Fifteen men and one woman were arrested, ranging in age from 20 to 60.

Fourteen are being detained in 13 garda stations across Dublin, one person is being held in Kildare and one is being detained in Kells.

They can be questioned for up to three days.

Gardaí seized three imitation firearms in the raids, along with computers, mobile phones and documentation.
