Investment Sheme Operator Charged With Theft And Deception Of €11m
An investment scheme operator has appeared in court charged with 38 theft and deception offences totalling €11 million.
51-year-old Breifne O' Brien, with an address at Kilmore, Monkstown Grove in Monkstown, was arrested by appointment by detectives from the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation on Thursday morning.
Detective Sergeant Martin Griffin of the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation told the court that Mr O’Brien was arrested at 9am and, when the charges were put to him, replied “not guilty” to each one.
Mr O' Brien was granted bail after his mother, Mary O’Brien, put herself forward as an independent surety of €10,000.
She assured Judge Cormac Dunne that she understood the legal implications and her obligations in default and that she was acting in a voluntary capacity.
Judge Cormac Dunne remanded Mr O’Brien to appear again at the Dublin District Court in November.

Two Charged Over Cork Assault
Two men have been arrested in connection with a serious assault on a businessman at a Cork industrial estate on Tuesday. A man returning to his business at Churchfield Industrial Estate at about 16:45 on Tuesday was approached by two men, who demanded money. Following a struggle, the 30-year-old man was left with serious injuries.

29-Year-Old Faces Arson Charges
A 29-year-old man is due in Dublin District Court charged with arson in connection to a fire at a three-storey house in Dublin. A number of people had to be rescued from the burning building on the South Circular Road last Sunday night. One woman, 24, was treated in hospital for minor injuries.
