Cork Man Dies After Weekend Attack

57-year-old Patsy Deasy has died in hospital in Cork after being beaten at his local pub on Sunday night.

Mr Deasy, a Cork City Council employee, was socialising at the Red Cove Inn in Mahon on Friday night.

A row developed outside the pub between 12.30am and 1am on Saturday morning and Mr Deasy received a serious head injury when he was struck and fell to the ground.

He was rushed to Cork University Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery, but he died yesterday afternoon without regaining consciousness.

A post mortem will now be conducted by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster.

Gardaí say the post mortem results are likely to determine what course their investigation will take.
