Jill Meagher's Funeral Organised For Friday

The funeral of murdered Irishwoman Jill Meagher is to take place this Friday in Melbourne, her family has announced.

The service will take place at 10:30 local time (01:30 Irish time). A public memorial is expected to be held in Drogheda, Mrs Meagher's hometown, on the same day. Drogheda Borough Council has opened a book of condolence in the town in memory of the 29-year-old.

After the service her remains will be cremated, whereupon her ashes will be transported by her parents to their home in Perth, Western Australia.

Jill Meagher's body was found in a shallow grave beside a dirt road about 30 miles north west of Melbourne.

Her body had been missing for a week.

A 41-year-old man has been charged with raping and murdering the 29-year-old.

A peace march in Brunswick saw thousands of people taking to the streets in memory of the Irishwoman.

Mrs Meagher’s mother thanked the people of Melbourne for their support.

Edith McKeon, described the support the family had received following the news of her daughter's death as "unbelievable".

"I would like to thank the huge support here in Melbourne, it has just been unbelievable", she said.

"Just thank you, simply thank you. I hope they put more cameras out here to keep people safe and I just thank you everybody, everybody for all your support."

Mrs Meagher, originally from Drogheda, worked at ABC Radio and disappeared after a night out with work colleagues early hours of last Saturday.

She had emigrated with her husband to Australia three years ago.

Bayley Jailed For Life For Murdering Jill Meagher

Bayley Pleads Guilty To The Murder Of Jill Meagher
A man has pleaded guilty to the murder of Irish woman Jill Meagher in Melbourne last September. Adrian Earnest Bayley, 41, appeared at the Supreme Court of Victoria in Melbourne this morning and has been remanded in custody. Last month he also pleaded guilty to raping a journalist, who was originally from Drogheda.

Date Set For Jill Meagher Murder Accused
The man accused of the rape and murder of Louth woman Jill Meagher will stand trial from September 30. 41-year-old Adrian Ernest Bayley appeared, via video link from a Melbourne prison, in Victoria Supreme court for a brief hearing.
