Interpol Joins Search For Irish Rapist
UK police organisation Interpol has become involved in the search for a convicted rapist who has alluded authorities in Ireland.
Edward Connors has so far managed to evade police in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland after failing to appear before a Dublin court.
In May 2009, Connors was convicted of twice raping an American tourist in the Colin Glen Forest in west Belfast the previous year.
He was fifteen at the time of the attack.
Connors was released from custody earlier this year after half his sentence had been served, but was under probation.
He was then due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court in July, following the breach of one of his probation orders. He failed to turn up and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Connors was arrested by gardai in Bellayfermot and charged with actions contrary to the Sex Offenders Act 2001.
During the hearing he was granted bail, despite protestations from a Garda officer who was present. Connors then failed to appear before Dublin's Cloverhill District Court in August.
Interpol are now believed to be involved in the search for the missing 19-year-old.
The organisation provides technical and operational support to police agencies internationally and is thought to be working with the PSNI in Northern Ireland to search for the fugitive.
It is one of a number of national and international agencies involved.
Concerns are growing that he may have fled to the Continent.
An Garda Siochana and the PSNI are currently working together in their search for Connors.
