Plans To Ban Cheese Ad Scrapped

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) have prevented cheese from getting added to the list of blacklisted foods such as crisps, pizza and certain breakfast cereals.

These foods contain high amounts of fat, salt or sugar and are prevented from being shown in advertisements before 6pm on any children television channel.

The Republic's communications minister Pat Rabbitte said: "This is a common sense decision from the BAI and demonstrates that the consultation process has worked well." The Irish farmers' association welcomed the decision and there diary chairman Kevin Kiersy said restricting cheese adverts would be totally unacceptable. Elsewhere, Celebrities are now stopped from endorsing foods that aren't deemed to be healthy. In Northern Ireland no food that has high levels of fat, salt or sugar is now not allowed to be shown on any children television channel or any mainstream television programme."
