Three Arrested In Connection with €100,000 Theft

Gardaí have arrested three people in connection with the theft of more than €100,000 in Co Cork at the weekend.

Thieves broke into a house in the Kanturk area sometime between 14.00 on Sunday and 10.00 on Monday.

The owner of the house, a man in his late 70s, was out at the time of the raid.

Gardaí from Mayfield in Cork recovered some of the cash when management at Silversprings Hotel in the city called them to deal with some rowdy residents on Monday.

Gardaí recovered €50,000 from a safe in the residents' room and later recovered a further €15,000 which had been hidden near a bus stop on the Lower Glanmire Road.

Two men and a woman in their mid and late 20s were arrested and taken to Mayfield and Gurranebraher Garda stations for questioning.

Gardaí say the theft highlights the dangers of people keeping large sums of cash in their homes and they urged people to heed security advice. They pointed out that there are a range of institutions where they can keep money safely.
