Catherine Gowing Murder Accused Remanded Until January

A man accused of murdering missing Offaly woman Catherine Gowing has appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court in Wales by video link from Altcourse prison in Liverpool.

46-year-old Clive Sharp spoke just to confirm his name and that he understood the proceedings.

The case was adjourned until 7 January 2013, when Mr Sharp will be asked to enter a plea.

There was no application for bail and Mr Sharp was remanded in custody.

Papers must now be served on the defendant by 18 December.

The court indicated that the murder trial would be held in April 2013.

A court heard how Ms Gowing had been tied up and raped before being murdered last year. The court heard details of the dismembering of Ms Gowing's body. Ms Gowing was last seen alive on October 12.

Man Pleads Guilty To Murder Of Catherine Gowling
A man has pleaded guilty for the murder of Irish vet Catherine Gowing. Ms Gowing, originally from Clonlee, was murdered in Wales in October 2012. Ms Gowing's body has never fully been recovered, however remains were found near her home in New Brighton. Clive Sharp, 46, pleaded guilty to her murder at Molt Crown Court today.

Two Arrested In Connection With August 2013 Dublin Murder
Gardaí investigating the murder of a man in Dublin in August last year have arrested two men. Dean Johnson was shot dead at Harelawn Green in Clondalkin in August 2013. Gardaí arrested two men, said to be aged in their 20s, in Dublin early on Monday morning. A number of related searches have also been carried out in Dublin and Kildare.

New Cheaper Drug Prices Introduced
The government plan to replace branded drugs prescribed to patients with cheaper generic alternatives comes into force today. Commonly prescribed drugs will be now be cheaper for both patients who buy them at pharmacies and the Health Service Executive, who buy them on behalf of people with medical cards.
