Student Leader Arrested After Dail Protest
THE president of the country's national student union body was arrested last night following a demonstration in the Dail.
About 100 Union of Students in Ireland (USI) members were in the Dail visitors' gallery during a debate on college fees and grants.
When the vote on a Fianna Fail motion was defeated, the USI representatives stood up and turned their backs on Government TDs.
USI president John Logue was arrested by a garda and led away in handcuffs after he was repeatedly asked to sit down and he refused, according to a USI spokesman.
Last night, several colleagues of Mr Logue's from the USI and the Trinity College students' union attended Pearse Street garda station awaiting Mr Logue's release.

USI 'Mutiny' Over Unemployment

USI Launch 'Yes' Vote Ahead Of Marriage Equality Referendum
The Unions of Students of Ireland (USI) has launched a campaign in support of a 'Yes' vote in the upcoming marriage equality referendum. In a statement on their website, the USI states that it believes that equal access to civil marriage in Ireland is "one of the most important civil rights issues of our generation".
