Two Die In Separate Fatal Car Crashes

Two people died in separate car crashed on Sunday in Co Clare and Co Galway.

A woman in her 20s died in a single-car crash near Ennis, Co Clare, shortly before 4pm when her vehicle struck a barrier. She was travelling with another woman near Ballylion, Barefield, when the incident took place on the northbound lane of the M18.

The second woman, believed to be in her 40s, was treated for minor injuries.

The passenger, understood to be the dead woman’s mother, was seriously injured and was trapped in the car for some time. It is understood they were returning to Athenry, Co Galway, from Shannon Airport.

A surgeon who was travelling behind the car stopped to assist.

Earlier on Sunday a man in his 50s was killed when a car hit a wall in Kildaree, Williamstown, Co Galway, at about 9.15am.Two passengers escaped with minor injuries.

Man Dies After Being Struck By Car In Co Galway
A 66-year-old pedestrian has died after he was hit by a car in Co Galway. The accident happened shortly after 12.30am on Monday on the N18. The vehicle also struck a parked Garda car and two officers who were outside the car were injured. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to The University Hospital Galway.

Man Dies In Shooting Incident
A 21-year-old man who was shot in Bunratty, Co Clare, died yesterday in hospital. Two men are still being questioned over the attack at the Bunratty Castle Hotel car park, and are being detained at Mayfield and Gurranabraher Garda Stations.

Two-Year-Old Killed In 'Tragic Accident' In Co Galway
Gardaí in Co Galway have reported the death of a two-year-old boy in Ornamore on Monday night. It is understood that the boy was hit by a car in the driveway of his home at Derrydonnell at about 19:15. Garda say that the car was being driven by one of the child's parents. The child died a short time after arriving at University Hospital Galway.

Three Dead In Irish Road Tragedies
Three people have now been killed on Irish roads in the last 24-hours. The latest fatality, a man in his early 40s, was killed after a van and his car collided near Crossgar in Co Down this morning, while two men were killed in Co Galway yesterday. Gardai at Clifton are investigating the fatal road traffic collision in Co Galway on Monday.
