Ireland Has Highest Birth Rate According To ESRI Report

At 16.2 per 1,000 population, Ireland again reported the highest birth rate of any of the 27 EU countries.

The second highest EU birth rate was reported for the UK at 12.9 per 1,000 population.

The decline in the perinatal mortality rate continues. This rate is estimated at 6.1 per 1,000 live births and stillbirths in 2011 compared with 6.8 per 1,000 live births and stillbirths in 2010 which represents a reduction of over 10%. When compared with 2002, when the perinatal mortality rate was 8.4 per 1,000 live births and stillbirths, the 2011 rate represents a reduction of 27%.

The stillbirth rate is estimated at 4.0 per 1,000 live births and stillbirths in 2011 compared with 5.6 per 1,000 live births and stillbirths in 2002, representing a reduction of 29%. The early neonatal mortality rate is estimated at 2.1 per 1,000 live births in 2011 compared with 2.8 per 1,000 live births in 2002 which represents a reduction of 25% over the decade.

Ireland Tops European Birth Rate
Ireland had the highest birth rate in Europe in 2008 according to new figures from the ESRI. The Economic and Social Research Institute said there was a 5% increase in the number of births between 2007 and 2008. There were 75,587 births in Ireland in 2008, according to the ESRI's Perinatal Statistics Report.

Birth Rate Falls In First Quarter Of 2013
A 9% decrease in the number of births registered has been recorded for the first quarter of 2013, in comparison to the same period in 2012. New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show 17,563 births were registered in the period, averaging an annual birth rate of 15.3 per 1,000 of the population.

Irish Prices 20% Higher Than EU Average
A new report from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) has revealed that Ireland's prices were 20% higher than the EU average in 2013. The Measuring Ireland's Progress 2013 report however also shows that this figure is an improvement from the 2009 report, when Ireland's prices were 2nd highest, 26% above the European average.
