Gaelic Star Granted Compassionate Leave To Attend Funeral

A Gaelic football star charged with murdering his father has been granted compassionate leave to go to his funeral.

Aloysius Hackett, 60, died at his home near Augher, County Tyrone.

Omagh Magistrates court heard that his son, Sen Hackett, told police that he shot his father.

However, a defence lawyer told the court that the 18-year-old suffers from depression and continues to have the support of his family.

His mother, two brothers and sisters also attended court.

District Judge Bernie Kelly refused bail but granted compassionate bail for a number of hours tomorrow to attend the funeral.

Mr Hackett will be chaperoned by his lawyer, Adrian O'Kane and Mickey Harte.

He was not permitted to speak to anyone else, including his family.

The Public Prosecution Service (PPS) has appealed over the judge's decision.
