HMV Limerick Staff Begin Sit-In Over Pay

Staff at an HMV store in Limerick have begun a sit-in after being told that they would not be paid.

HMV Ireland entered receivership on Wednesday, with all 16 stores across the State closing. HMV have said the closures are temporary as they look to secure a buyer for the chain.

However staff at the store in Limerick say they are attempting to secure wages owed to them, including holiday pay and money they earned over Christmas.

HMV Ireland has been placed in receivership, unlike its counterpart in the UK which has gone into administration.

A receivership is more serious than the administration process.

A spokesperson for Deloitte said that the receiver appointed to HMV will be talking to staff all over the country as part of its assessment of the viability of the company, and will be looking at options to facilitate payments to staff.

It is looking increasingly unlikely that HMV will honour gift vouchers bought before the receivership announcement on Wednesday.

However, anyone who bought vouchers as a gift using their credit card/debit card can obtain a refund through a 'chargeback' from their card issuer.
