Anglo Irish Bank Collapse Trial Delayed Until 2014
It could take up to a year before those accused in connection with the collapse of the Anglo Irish Bank stand trial, the High Court has heard.
The Director of Corporate Enforcement was granted a one-year extension to retain documentation seized during the four-year investigation.
Currently charges have been brought against two of the five matters under investigation but the court heard that substantial progress has since been made that could lead to further charges.
Updating the court on the progress of the investigation, counsel for the Director of Corporate Enforcement said charges had been brought against a number of former Anglo executives in relation to two of the five issues under investigation.
The possible delay is trial has been explained as being caused by the waiting list in the ordinary circuit court.
Counsel for the DPP Úna Ní Raifeartaigh told Mr Justice Peter Kelly that currently she was unaware of any steps being made to secure a judge to “case manage” the trial.
Mr Justice Kelly refused a proposed three-year but did grant one-year and adjourned the case until January 2014.
