Public Servants Warned Pay Could Be Cut Again

Public servants have been warned that their pay could again be cut if they don’t back the new Croke Park deal, the Taoiseach has warned.

Edna Kenny said the government was prepared to impose wage reductions through legislation like the Fianna Fail/Green coalition did three years ago, according to the Irish Independent.

However, he added that the aim was to strike a deal on necessary payroll cuts over the next three years.

It came as Health Minister James Reilly said that a cut-price graduate programme for nurses may be extended to other workers.

The government are trying to find €1bn in savings over the next three years, with the first €300m wanted this year.

That translates to approximately a €1,000 cut for every public servant.
