Ministers Criticise Kerry Council Over Drink Drive Motion

Alan Shatter and Leo Varadkar have both criticised Kerry County Council over its motion to introduce drink-driving permits.

Shatter, the justice minister described as "grossly irresponsible" a councillor promoting drink driving and putting their lives and the lives of others at risk.

Adding that reducing fatalities on roads should always take precedence over promoting the social consumption of alcohol.

Minister for Transport and Tourism Leo Varadkar echoed the sentiments of Minister Alan Shatter, saying that while rural isolation is a serious issue the solution is neither alcohol or drink driving.

Kerry Councillor Danny Healy Rae had earlier this week proposed a motion which was backed by Kerry County Council for drink-driving permits for rural people.
