Ex-Footballer Sentenced To Seven Years For Knife Attack
Former professional footballer, Trevor Donnelly, has been sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in jail for an unprovoked stabbing following a pub argument.
The 38-year-old ex-Dundalk and Leeds player stabbed Keith Noone as he climbed over railings during an argument outside the Village Inn Pub in Finglas.
It is understood a row broke out between a woman with Mr Donnelly and a female with Mr Noone’s, however, the victim was not involved in the altercation and was trying to leave to go home when he was attacked.
Noone required 42 stitches across his stomach and chest area and seven stitches to his neck. He was left with reduced mobility in his shoulder.
On the opening day of his trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Donnelly, of Balrothery Estate, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to assault causing serious harm on April 10, 2010.
Donnelly had six previous convictions, including road traffic and criminal damage offences.
The final two years of Donnelly’s sentence were suspended under strict conditions.
