Former School Caretaker Jailed For Child Porn Images

A former school caretaker has been jailed for five months, and will be added to the sex offenders register for five years, for possession of child pornography.

62-year-old Gerard Fitzgerald, of Grianan, Westbury, Corbally, Co Clare, denied having 13 images of the “gravest level” of child porn on his computer, but was found guilty on Thursday at Limerick District Court.

It is understood that Judge Eugene O’Kelly made note of the fact the married father had previously worked as a part-time caretaker at St Michael’s school, Pery Square, Limerick, and had gone to be a diocesan lay minister in St Michael’s Church on Pery Square.

The judge commented that it was “concerning” that Fitzgerald should seek out such work when he had an appetite for child pornography, the Irish Times reported.
