Four Die In Weekend Road Accidents

Four people have died in separate car accidents over the weekend, bring the years total to 16, already up on the previous total of 10 for 2012.

A man aged in his mid-20s was involved in a two-car crash on the Naas-Newbridge dual carriageway.

The Garda Ombudsman Commission is inquiring into the circumstances of the fatal crash, which occurred around 3.20am yesterday.

The investigation is believed to concern a Garda car in the area at the time, with the Garda Ombudsman required to investigate all such incidents where a member of the Garda is involved.

Also in Co Kildare, a man in this 40s died after a two-car crash at Broadford near Kinnegad.

Meanwhile, gardaí at Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, are investigating a two-car collision on the N2 at Tullyvaragh Lower, Carrickmacross, at 5pm on Friday.

One of the drivers, named locally as Michelle McCabe (34) from Shantonagh, near Latton, Co Monaghan, was killed.

And in Co Mayo, gardaí said Tara Ryan (21) from Johnstown, Swinford, was killed in a crash involving a car, truck, and a minibus on Friday.

Taoiseach Makes Garda Commitments Following O'Higgins Report Publication

Two Women Arrested In Connection With Cow's Lane Death
Two women have been arrested in connection with the death of a man on Cow's Lane, Dublin on Thursday, 10 September. A man in his 20s died following a violent disorder incident last week. The two women, both aged in their early 20s, are the latest to be arrested as part of the investigation.
