Thousands Without Power After Strong Overnight Winds

An estimated 7,000 homes have been left without power after strong winds overnight damages electricity lines.

The worst affected area is the southwest, around 5,000 customers, mainly in Killarney in Co Kerry and Bandon in Co Cork, have lost supply.

Crews from the ESB network are working to try and repair faults and restore power, however continuing high winds are causing delays, particularly in the southwest.

Strong winds have also led to the closure of the Harry Blaney bridge in north Donegal, which has been closed until further notice for safety reasons.
