Met Eireann Warns Of Extremely Windy Conditions

Met Eireann has issued a 'Status Orange' forecast for today.

The forecaster said it will be extremely windy, with gusts of 90 to 130km/h, which may cause some damage.

Met Eireann said: "There will be widespread showers of hail, sleet and snow tonight, with the chance of some thunder too. It will remain windy, with the strong to gale force winds continuing to produce some severe gusts. The snow showers will produce some accumulations mainly on higher ground, but also at lower levels. The strong winds and snow showers will produce very poor conditions at higher levels, with the possibility of some blizzard like conditions. Lowest temperatures tonight of -1 to +2 degrees, with the risk of icy patches."

The advisory group on discretionary medical cards is to widen the criteria for the issuing of cards, the Minister for Health Leo Varadkar said. Overnight Temperatures Expected To Drop To -4C
Overnight temperatures across Ireland are expected to fall as low as -4C, with Met Éireann warning that despite sunny spells during the day, condition will remain treacherous. A Status Yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in place, with showers of hail, sleet and snow forecast across the country.
