Varadkar Announces €43m For New Transport Projects

€43m will be spent this year to make it safer and easier to walk and cycle around the greater Dublin area, Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar.

One of the projects will see an extension of the Dublin Bikes scheme from Heuston Station to the O2 and Docklands.

Others include the resurfacing of some bus lanes, new cycle lanes and new walkways along the Royal Canal, and more work on the Sutton to Sandycove link.

Outside of Dublin, there will be a new public transport hub for Naas, traffic calming for Celbridge, improvements to bus stops in Meath, and work on a cycle lane from Drogheda to Slane.

It is understood that the funds for the projects will come from public transport and the Smarter Transport budget.
