Govt To Fund Quarter Of Wage For Long-Term Unemployed

Employers who take on extra staff from the Live Register will have 25% of the wage cost funded by the government.

The announcement came as part of a new government action plan for jobs. As part of the scheme, the government will pay €1 of every €4 it costs an employer to recruit a long-term unemployed person.

The initiative contains 333 actions to be implemented in 2013 by 16 government departments and 46 State agencies.

The plan will see the IDA target 130 new investments aimed at securing €500 million worth of foreign investment to help create 13,000 new jobs.
