Drivers Medical Guidelines Report Published
A 73-page report entitled Sláinte agus Tiomáint - Medical Fitness to Drive Guidelines has been published aiming to give clear guidance to medical professionals in implementing medical fitness to drive policies.
Conditions such as eye disease, epilepsy, cancer, strokes, amnesia, depression, pregnancy and deep vein thrombosis are all covered in the report.
It also gives advice on how to handle the situation if drivers react badly to being told that they can no longer drive, up to and including violence.
Road Safety Authority chief executive Noel Brett said drivers had “nothing to fear” from the new guidelines.

Two Thirds Of Final Year Medical Students Do Not Plan To Work In Irish Hospitals
Fine Gael Senator for Cork and Seanad Spokesperson on Health, Colm Burke, has today released the results of a survey he commissioned of medical students across the country, which found that nearly two thirds of final year medical students (65.5%) do not plan on working within the Irish hospital system one year after their graduation.

'N' Plate For New Drivers Comes Into Force Today
The new Novice plate for new drivers is to come into force today. New drivers will replace their 'L' plates with the new 'N' plates, which they will have to display for two years. Under the new law that brings in the 'N' plate, the number of penalty points before disqualification has been reduced to seven.
