15 Year Sentence For Rapist Who Attacked Lost Hen Party Woman
A man has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for raping and beating a young woman out on a hen party in Galway city in June last year.
25-year-old Louis Sheils “befriended” the woman when she became separated from her friends during a hen party when she lost her mobile phone.
Sheils, formerly of Clifton Crescent, Newcastle, Galway, told the woman she could use the phone at his flat, however he became when she rejected his sexual advances.
Sheils then attacked the woman, repeatedly raping and beating her in an assault that last several hours.
The young woman, who told the court she feared for her life, managed to escape from a bathroom and ran completely naked to a nearby house for help.
Sheils fled the flat before gardaí arrived but was arrested two days later in Killarney with sterling currency and a bus ticket to Belfast.
He pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to rape, oral rape and false imprisonment of the girl at his rented accommodation on June 5th, 2011.
Mr Justice Paul Carney imposed a sentence of 15 years on the rape charges. He suspended the final three years after taking mitigating factors into account.
He imposed an eight-year concurrent sentence on the false imprisonment charge. He declared the man a sex offender as required by law and ordered 18 months post-release supervision.

A Roscommon man has been jailed for 11 years for raping a baby-sitter over two decades ago. John Gerard Regan, 57, from Cloonfad, Ballyhaunis was found guilty by a jury at the Central Criminal Court last February of raping the now 36-year-old woman in 1982 and on three charges of indecently assaulting her in 1979 and 1984.

Body Of Missing Woman Frankie Devlin Found
Gardaí have reported that the body of Frankie Devlin was recovered on Wednesday 9 October. Ms Devlin (67) was reported missing on Saturday 5 October and a search operation had been ongoing. The discovery was made on the same day that garda had renewed an appeal for information on the whereabouts of Ms Devlin.
