Bus Company Owner Pleads Guilty
The owner of a school bus involved in a fatal crash has pleaded guilty to failing to properly maintain the vehicle.
The bus, part of an Offaly bus hire company owned by Raymond and Ruairí McKeown, crashed on a bog road just outside Clara, Co Offaly, on April 4th, 2006, when the back axle came away.
The brothers had initially pleaded not guilty to six charges.
Judge Margaret Heneghan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court told the jury that Raymond McKeown had pleaded guilty to one of the counts and a nolle prosequi had been entered in relation to the remaining five.
The trial continues in relation to O’Reilly Commercials Ltd regarding failures in mechanical checks on the vehicle.

A 37-year-old Cork man has pleaded guilty to shooting a protected red deer stag and cutting it in half. Gardaí confirmed that Richard Cullinane, of Lisnacon, Kanturk, Co Cork, was traced after took the front half of the animal to a taxidermist as he wanted it monuted as a hunting trophy.

A garda has pleaded guilty to two counts of engaging in sex acts with a teenage boy at the Circuit Criminal Crown Court in Cork. Damien Jermyn, 29, who is a garda based in Killarney, has been remanded on bail after he pleaded guilty to the two chafes of defilement, on two separate dates in 2011. He will be sentenced in November.
