Garda Representatives Protest Outside Leinster House

A protest is underway outside Leinster House by about 30 representatives of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors and the Garda Representative Association in an ongoing dispute over cuts in earnings under the extension of the Croke Park Agreement.

GRA General Secretary PJ Stone said it could not be fair that a Senator on over €65,000 would lose €600, while a garda earning around €40,000 could lose €2,500.

"Our association has made substantive reforms of roster and made significant savings for the country," he said.

"We were never offered a seat in the negotiations between government and the trade unions. Members of An Garda Síochána were sidelined.

"If we are to look at the deal now being voted upon by the trade union movement, we see that it is blatantly unfair."

Both organisations have pledged to continue their campaign of resistance to the proposals.
