Hospitals Seeking To Confirm Out-Patient Appointments

Some 18,000 letters are being sent to out-patients of hospitals in Galway and Roscommon asking if they still want appointments in an effort to cut waiting times and reduce the number of "no shows" at outpatient clinics.

Figures show that in 2012, around 23,000 patients failed to attend appointments in the four hospitals that make up the group.

Recipients of the letters will be asked to telephone a dedicated line to update contact details and confirm whether they still need an appointment.
