Nightly Water Restrictions Remain In Dublin City
Following the last five night's water restrictions in effect in Dublin City, the City Council has announced nightly hours of restriction, which will remain in place but the operative hours will be reduced to 10 hours for the next two nights - from 9.00pm to 7.00am each day, and will remain in place across the Dublin Region.
The council conducted an analysis of the water levels at Stillorgan Reservoir over the past four days. Despite the current restrictions and with some additional capacity gained as a result, water levels still remain below a normal and sustainable level.
In a statement Dublin City Council said: "We wish to thank business and domestic consumers for the contribution they have made to conserving water since the restrictions were put in place. Undoubtedly, this has assisted us in endeavouring to replenish treated drinking water levels to a sustainable level. A further review of water levels will be conducted again on Thursday next, to determine if Stillorgan Reservoir is back to a sustainable level such that the current restrictions can be lifted.
"It should be stressed that there is no problem with the quality of treated drinking water or with storage levels of untreated/raw water.
"We strongly urge consumers all over the Dublin Region to help conserve water by restricting their use of water during the day as much as possible, especially over the coming days. Small adjustments to some of our daily activities can help to significantly reduce the volume of water we use without impacting on our lifestyle."

Water Shortages For Dublin
Dublin City Council is to introduce water restrictions later to deal with supply shortages, it has emerged. A spokesman for the council said water restrictions will mainly be in the form of a reduction in supply between 7pm and 7am on December 8th and 9th.

Following the publication of a report revealing "dangerous levels" of lead in the Dublin water system, Sinn Féin Spokesperson on the Environment Brian Stanley has said that the "huge amounts of money being expended on Irish Water and water meters would be better spent addressing the problems of leaks and outdated infrastructure".

Launched by the party's spokesperson on Environment, Barry Cowen, the Bill is seeking an exemption for families subject to a boil water notice or faced with increased levels of lead in their water pipes.
