Tanaiste Unhappy About Lack Of TD Support
Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore has complained that he is not being given enough credit for his work as Foreign Affairs Minister saying that his role in restoring Ireland's battered reputation abroad and promoting trade has been turned into a negative.
It is understood that during one to-one meetings with Labour TDs following the party's Meath East by-election disaster, he complained that the media are saying that because he is out of the country so much he is losing influence.
The Irish Independent reported one unnamed TD who spoke with Mr Gilmore as saying: "One of the biggest failures is the stories in the papers that he took the wrong job. But when he took over, Ireland's reputation internationally was like a sinking ship. Now it's been restored and he hasn't been credited for that".
