Govt Unveil Plan For 20,000 New Manufacturing Jobs By 2016

The government have announced a plan to create som3 20,000 jobs in the manufacturing sector by 2016.

Under the plan, a specific start=up fund will be established, from which fledgling manufacturing companies will get to apply for support.

A support fund for capital investment by manufacturing companies will be set up alongside additional financial support for R&D investment in engineering firms.

Minister for Enterprise Richard Bruton and Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn launched the initiative.

Investigations Launched Into Workplace Death In Cork
Investigations have been launched into the death of a 35-year-old man in a workplace accident in Co Cork. It is understood that an incident occurred at around 1.30am at Architectural & Metal Systems, an aluminium manufacturing plant, in Little Island. Garda and the Health and Safety Authority have launched separate investigations into the incident.

Epilepsy Seizure Drug Recall Ordered
Epilepsy medication is being recalled "as a precautionary measure", the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) has reported. Batches of Buccolam Oromucosal Solution, a prescription-only medication used to treat seizures, have been recalled by manufacturers ViroPharma SPRL.

New Manufacturing Plant To Create 270 Jobs In Co Limerick
Up to 270 new jobs are to be created in Co Limerick over the next five years. Ethicon Biosurgery Ireland has announced that it will invest €80 million in a new manufacturing plant at the National Technology Park in Plassey. An additional 150 construction jobs will also be created during the building of the new plant.
