€24,000 Compensation For Injured Garda

The High Court has awarded a garda officer €24,000 compensation over an incident in which she was kicked by a man in custody.

37-year-old garda Aisling Connor told the court that on the night of April 27, 2007, while on duty at Ashbourne garda station, Co Meath, a "very aggressive and abusive" man was brought in by one of her colleagues.

Gda Connor, of Highmeadows, Duleek, Co Louth, told the hearing the man tried to head butt her in the face as she and two colleagues were escorting him to his cell.

Gda Connor's barrister Conor Kearney said his client sustained soft tissue injuries to her legs and a nerve injury to her elbow.
