Community Law And Mediation Centre Launches In Limerick
Minister Jan O'Sullivan T.D., has said that the launch of the Limerick Community Law and Mediation Centre was a milestone for Limerick.
The Centre, which has been providing services since January, provides legal advice, information and advocacy to citizens in the regeneration areas of Limerick. It will also operate a mediation service to resolve disputes.
Minister O'Sullivan said: "There is an old adage that ‘in law nothing is certain except the cost’. While the law of the land applies to one and all, the ability to deploy, challenge, or clarify the law is all too often the preserve of the wealthy or vested interests. Providing access to legal services is essential to truly vindicate citizens’ rights and that is what the Limerick Community Law and Mediation Centre will achieve."
The Centre provides residents of regeneration areas with information, advice and advocacy across a range of areas including employment rights, housing, social welfare and debt. It is funded by the Office of Regeneration and the Public Interest Law Alliance, a project run by the Free Legal Advice Centres. The Centre is the first of its kind to open outside Dublin.
