Jury Find Bin Lorry Driver Not Guilty

A driver charged with dangerous driving for causing the death of a toddler has been found not guilty.

Alex McDaid, 60, from Bromany, denied the charge in relation to the death of three-year-old Patrick McDonagh which happened outside his home at Ballymacool in February 2010.

The child was running after a tennis ball and it ran into the path of a bin truck Mr McDaid was reversing up the street at the time.

Mr McDaid told the court he was reversing because it was impossible to turn the truck at the dead end.

He was fined €100 after admitting he did not have a driving licence at the time.
