New Sports Facility Opens In Árainn Mhór

Dinny McGinley T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, opened a new sports facility in Árainn Mhór, Co. Donegal today.

The new development includes:

• multipurpose court suitable for tennis, basketball, and 7-a-side football, with perimeter fencing and floodlights

• changing rooms, shower rooms, and toilets

• car park with lighting for 18 vehicles and 2 disabled parking spaces

• new access road to the facility

The development has been completed with state funding of almost €170,000.

Minister of State said: "My Department has provided funding to assist with various developments in Árainn Mhór over the years—for example, the graveyard, the community hall, and the Irish college—and now we have provided a grant for sports equipment for this new centre. The partners who participated in this project have succeeded in providing a facility which will be very important for the economy and for the population of the island, something which will greatly enhance life on the island."

Football club St Patrick's Athletic has revealed plans to develop a new 12,000-seater stadium in Inchimore. The scheme would also include a new shopping complex and new houses. St Pat's said the stadium construction would be financially independent and not reliant on government funding.

Bausch + Lomb Create 125 New Jobs

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, the parent company of Bausch + Lomb, has invested more than €200 million in the Waterford facility's operations, infrastructure and manufacturing line growth.

Northgate To Create 150 New Jobs
A total of 150 new jobs are to created in Co Mayo by health services company Northgate. The new jobs will more than double the company's workforce in Ireland. The private company specialises in public service contract work and operates around the world.

Cannabis Cultivation Facility Uncovered In Co Galway
Gardaí in Co Galway have arrested two men in connection with the discovery of 120 cannabis plants during a search of a house at Kilgarve Court in Ballinsloe. The discovery was made when garda searched the house on Sunday morning, also recovering a quantity of harvested cannabis. Garda estimated that the drugs were worth €100,000.

Call For Govt To Ensure Rural Schools Are Fitted With Broadband
Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North West, Michael Moynihan, has called on the Government to ensure rural schools are fitted with broadband as a matter of urgency. Last week in the Dáil, Deputy Moynihan questioned the Minister for Communications about the fact that many rural schools throughout Cork have no broadband.
