€5.7m Extension At Meanscoil Iognáid Rís Opens

The Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn T.D., has officially opened the €5.7 million extension and refurbishment at Meanscoil Iognáid Rís, Naas, Co Kildare.

Meanscoil Iognáid Rís has 872 students and is projecting an increase to 920 students this September.

The building project consisted of a four storey extension, a second single storey extension and extensive refurbishment to the existing building including a new roof, windows and finishes. The extension includes general classrooms, specialist rooms, and a GP Area, with a floor area of 2,305sqm. Hard play courts and car parking were also included in the project.

The Minister said: "I'm delighted to be here to open this fantastic new building, which is a great addition to the facilities already available here.

"I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to all involved who’ve worked so hard to bring this project to completion, the principal, Noel Merrick, the Chairperson of the Board of Management, Seán Feely, staff, parents and the wider community."

Luas Red Line Docklands Extension Opens
The Luas Red Line extension to Dublin's docklands has opened to the public for the first time today, with free transport for commuters until 3pm today. There are four new stops on the new extension - at George's Dock, Mayor Square, Spencer Dock and the Point.

Meath Schools Benefit In Major Building Programme
Fine Gael has welcomed the news that construction will be progressed on six schools in Meath in 2012. The Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn TD, announced a total of 56 major school building projects today as part of the €430 million educational infrastructure plan for next year.
