Property Tax To Be Deducted Directly From Tenants

Renters who do not respond to letters about the property tax will have the money deducted from their wages, the Irish Independent have revealed.

While it is the landlord of a property who is liable for the tax, if a letter is addressed to the person renting the property, and they do not respond to the Revenue, the tax will be taken directly from their wages.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan is reported as saying that people should ignore “irresponsible advice” about ignoring letters from Revenue, adding that they would have "probably no more than a few days" to act once the final warning letter is received in June.

"Against a background of non-engagement, or engagement which is simply too late, mandatory deduction at source will inevitably take place," he said.
