Dublin Bike Scheme To Be Trebled

Dublin city councillors have voted in favour of expanding the Dublin Bikes scheme, trebling the number of bikes to 1,500.

According to RTÉ, the council may need to seek sponsorship to make up a shortfall of €500,000 to run the scheme.

The scheme will be extended to cover the east and west of Dublin city, as this is thought to be the areas of heaviest demand.

However, some councillors did raise concerns over the scheme being biased against the northside.

There are plans to eventually extend the scheme to Whitehall on the northside to Clonskeagh on the southside and involve 10,000 bikes, according to RTÉ.
