Name Shortlist For New Bridge Released

A shortlist of names for Dublin city’s newest bridge has been release by Dublin City Council ahead of a review by the next meeting of the naming committee on 12 June.

RTÉ published the list of 17 names, shortlisted from 85 official nominations for the bridge at Marlborough Street.

The names are:

• Abbey Theatre Bridge

• Willie Bermingham

• James Connolly

• Frank Duff

• Lady Gregory

• Tony Gregory

• Rosie Hackett

• Kay Mills

• James Plunkett

• George Sigerson

• Bram Stoker

• Jonathan Swift

• The Patriots Bridge

• The Returned Home

• Ernest Walton

• Oscar Wilde

• W B Yeats

MEPs Call For Dublin Bridge Name
Dublin MEP, Emer Costello, has repeated her call for the new Dublin city bridge to be named after trade union activist, Rosie Hackett. Ms Costello said: "As the potential names for our new bridge are whittled down to the final five, I am urging Dublin City Council to choose Rosie Hackett.

Three Men Arrested After County Kildare Shooting Incident
Three men have been arrested in connection with a firearms incident in Co Kildare on Monday night, 06 November. At approximately 9.30pm last night, Gardaí observed a black Audi estate car with a partial registration number 151 G driving at speed through Monasterevin over the draw bridge, Main Street and on towards the Kildare Road.

New €140m Technology Investment Fund Announced
Atlantic Bridge has announced a new €140 million investment fund for technology companies with global scalability. The Atlantic Bridge III fund is supported by the Department of Jobs through Enterprise Ireland and has been welcomed by Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton.

Appeal Issued Over Serious Road Accident
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following a road traffic collision at Annesley Bridge Road, Dublin 3. A woman in her 20s was hit by a car at Annesley Bridge Road shortly before 06:45am on Monday. The woman remains in a serious condition in Beaumont Hospital. The driver of the car involved in the incident was not injured.

Longford County Council Announces Road Closures
Longford County Council has announced temporary road closures between Edgeworthstone and Granard between 24 August and 04 September, 2015. The closure is to allow bridge replacement works on the N55 at Ardagullion and Cartron. Diversions will be signposted and local access will be maintained at all times, the council said.
