Man Stabbed In Pharmacy Fight

A man was rushed to hospital with stab wounds after a fight in a Dublin pharmacy on Wednesday evening, the Irish Independent has reported.

It is understood a man, said to be in his 40s suffered stab wounds to his abdomen and arms when a fight broke out in Hickey’s Pharmacy in Phibsboro Shopping Centre.

He was taken to the nearby Mater Hospital, were his injuries are not thought to the life threatening, according to the Irish Independent.

A second man was arrested at the pharmacy, and a number of surrounding shops closed while the area was sealed for a technical examination.

IPU Warns Parents Not To Give Children Under 12 Codeine-Containing Medicines
The Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) is warning parents not to treat children below 12 years old with codeine-containing medicines for coughs and colds because of the risk of serious side-effects. In addition, the use of codeine for coughs and colds is not recommended in adolescents between 12 and 18 years who already have problems with their breathing.

IPU Highlight Medicine Shortage
The health of patients in Ireland is at risk due to a widespread shortage in medication, according to the Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU). According to a study carried out by the union, some 98% of pharmacists said they noticed "significant medicine shortages" in the last year.

Law Change To Allow Internet Pharmacy Sales
A change to the laws on internet pharmacy will allow consumers to buy common medicines online. The Irish Times has reported that a new online pharmacy will only operate within the Republic, meaning it will still be illegal for patients to buy drugs online from overseas suppliers.
