April Sales Figures Show Slight Improvement

April 2013 saw mild improvement in retail volume and sales in Ireland, following a worrying March slump.

The latest report from the Central Statistics Office showed the volume of retail sales increased by 0.2% in April when compared with the previous month.

There was a decrease of 0.5% in the annual figure.

If Motor Trades are excluded, the volume of retail sales decreased by 0.3% in April 2013 when compared with March 2013 and there was an annual decrease of 0.3%.

The sectors with the largest month on month volume increases are Books, Newspapers & Stationery (+8.7%), Electrical Goods (+2.6%) and Motor Trade (+1.7%).

The sectors with the largest monthly decreases were Food, Beverages & Tobacco - specialised stores (-4.5%) and Department Stores (-3.6%).

April 2013 also saw an increase 0.3% in the value of retail sales in April 2013 when compared with March 2013.

There was an annual decrease of 1.4% when compared with April 2012.

If Motor Trades are excluded, there was a monthly decrease of 0.7% in the value of retail sales and an annual decrease of 1.2%.

Man Charged With The Murder Of Bobby Ryan
A 49-year-old man is due to appear before Tipperary District Court charged in connection with the murder of Bobby Ryan. Father-of-two Bobby Ryan of Boherlahan, Cashel, Co Tipperary was reported missing to Tipperary Town Gardaí on 3 June 2011. His remains were found concealed in an underground concrete tank on a farm at Fawnagowan, on 30 April 2013.

Man Arrested Over 2011 Tipperary Murder
Gardaí investigating the murder of Bobby Ryan in Tipperary in June 2011 have arrested a man. Mr Ryan was reported missing on 03 June, 2011, having been last seen at Fawnagown, Tipperary. His body wasn't discovered until April 2013, when it was found on farmland.
