O'Connor Condemns Gangland Shooting In Dublin
Fianna Fáil Local Area Representative for Tallaght Charlie O'Connor has strongly condemned the latest gangland shooting in Dublin and has called on Tallaght residents to cooperate fully with the gardaí.
Mr O'Connor said: "This shooting happened on a summer’s evening at a busy shopping centre in a residential area of Tallaght. It was a particularly brazen and public attack by criminal thugs who clearly have no respect for the safety of this community and its people.
"I have spoken to many families and older people in the area both last night and today and they are appalled and distressed by what has happened. Many are understandably fearful for their own safety and that of their neighbours after criminals came into their community and opened fire in public, while innocent people stood nearby.
"Unfortunately, these gang-style attacks and violent assaults have become all too common in Dublin. Tallaght, like other areas, has suffered as a result of cuts to community garda resources and the major gaps in the garda force. Our local gardaí are under extreme pressure as their resources are slashed, and garda numbers dwindle to dangerously low levels while the ban on recruitment remains in place. In many cases, the gardaí feel they do not have the support they need to do their jobs as thoroughly and effectively as possible."
